1:1 BUILD DETAIL

The brief asked us to take one of the conceptual detail and fully detail them as well as do a boq, schedule and a spec.
These drawings will get voted on by the class and 12 projects will get build.
If your detail went chosen you had to join a different pair to make up a group of 6.

Our detail were not chosen due to the price

DENVER INFORMAL SETTLEMENT

INFORMAL SETTLEMENT

FOR A FULL OVERVIEW OF THE DESIGN PROJECT FOLLOW THE DENVER INFORMAL SETTLEMENT LINK.

The construction part of this project called for us to identify a problem on site and design and detail a hybrid solution for the problem.

In our Pair my partner and I decided to redesign the water points that is the main problem of the muddy/ unusable roads in the settlement.

Our main plan was to get the water off site as fast as possible.
This called for a different look at conventional site drains as they will get clogged with rubbish and will need to be cleaned. We found a new type of concrete that can take up to a 1000 L of water per sq per minute. (Hydromedia)

The water points is the main gathering space of the community as well as they are located at points were people need to pass by to exit the community. This made it a ideal location for rubbish collection
At the water points we added in rubbish bins as well as a information board where the fire department/  health department can add notices.

CONCEPTUAL DETAILS

3 CONCEPTUAL DETAILS

The next assignment asked us to do details before we start designing.

The details had to talk about our concept  for the design.
We decided to do a stair, ceiling and a sliding wall detail.

We also had to keep in mind that one of these details  might get chosen for a further project.

FULL SCALE DETAIL

FULL SCALE BUILDING DETAIL

In our pairs we had to do a full scale 1:1 or 1:2 detail of one of the pairs design work.

We decided to do a seating detail from my partners design (Melville Koppies).
With the dwg's we also had to do a boq, spec, detailed description and a construction program.

MATERIALS

ANALYSIS & EXPLORATION OF A MATERIAL

The brief were split up into 2 parts

Part 1

The brief called for a study on a building material

Where it comes from?
How is it mined?
How is it used?
How is it Produced?

Part 2

Abstraction of the material and how can it be used in a different way?

Proposal
With the hand in of part 1 we had to add in a proposed experiment for the material.
